Hossein Dehnavifard led the design and development of the charging system for a battery-electric locomotive, which encompassed two key sectors:

The charging station, where he was responsible for schematic design, hardware sizing, and the development of plugs and receptacles to ensure seamless integration with the locomotive.

The embedded software control design, where he utilized a traction inverter to manage the charging of the energy storage system.

Throughout this project, Hossein focused on optimizing power conversion efficiency and minimizing downtime. He designed the system architecture, including AC-DC and DC-DC converters, and developed control algorithms in C++ to ensure effective communication between components. The system was rigorously tested through simulations and real-world trials, with particular attention to energy efficiency, safety, and fault detection. He also implemented diagnostic features to ensure safe operation during the charging process. This comprehensive approach helped create a reliable and efficient charging system that contributed to the battery-electric locomotive's operational efficiency and sustainability.
